Women represent close to 48% of Canada’s labour force, but only 3% of Canada’s truck drivers, technicians, and cargo workers are women. Not at JBT. Female drivers represent 12% of JBT Transport’s fleet and 50% of our office workers.
We’re proud to have a diverse team that represent every walk of life imaginable. One of those team members is the amazing Kathy McMahon. Kathy’s been a driver since 2009 and has been working with JBT for just under three years. During that time, she’s developed strong relationships within the company. In fact, if you asked Kathy what she likes most about working for JBT, she’d tell you it’s the people. But rather than talk for Kathy, why don’t we let her tell you a bit about her career as a driver.
We sat down with her earlier this month to talk trucking, travel, and how she spends her time off the road.
What do like the most about working for JBT?
The people! At JBT, I’m not a number, I’m a person. I feel comfortable here. We also have very well maintained equipment! That is such an important aspect of the industry, and JBT is fantastic at keeping their equipment running properly and safely.

Why did you choose trucking?
It has always been something I wanted to do, since I was a little girl helping my Grandfather with his trucking business. I raised my children and once they were gone, I decided to do what I always wanted to do.
Do you have any pets or family members that travel with you?
My grandson comes on trips periodically.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Read, trip planning, and games to keep the mind active.
What’s your favorite part of being a driver?
Travel, adventure, meeting new people in different places. I love the freedom the job allows me and seeing the sunrise and sunsets in different places. I am one of the lucky few who can say that I love what I do!
